Hi, welcome to my page!
My Story
From an associate degree in business administration to a bachelor’s in civil engineering, and a master’s in Urban and Regional Planning, I came to the United States as a Fulbright scholar from Afghanistan with a passion for transportation planning. I chose planning as a career because it involves teamwork and interaction with the community, and it allows me to utilize my analytical as well as social and managerial skills to help develop strong and sustainable communities for the future.
Having studied in Asia, Europe, and the US, I hope to bring diversity and an international perspective to my team. One of my recent projects was a Feasibility Study for Transitional Housing in the City of Clinton, Iowa. The project involved researching policies, identifying community problems, writing a policy memo, and proposing solutions related to transitional housing in that community.
In my most recent role, I joined the Astig Planning firm to work as an urban planner due to my passion for creating an equitable, accessible, and sustainable living environment and my commitment to race equity and social justice through my diverse experience in communication, community engagement, policy planning, and research.

SKILLS
As an urban planner and an engineer, my expertise includes qualitative and quantitative research, program evaluation, communication and outreach, technical reports, spatial analysis, data analysis, mapping, and presentations. I am proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe InDesign, ArcGIS Pro, Urban Footprint, and Microsoft Office. I speak English, Hindi, Dari, Urdu, Pushto, basic French and Arabic. I am always open to learning new software and challenging myself with projects I have never worked on before.
My areas of interest are transportation planning, strategic planning, policy research and community development. Nevertheless, I am a generalist who loves to learn new things. I was involved in various interdisciplinary projects on economic development, teen resilience, watershed management, housing, climate change, and city infrastructure and transportation.

I am a hard worker and always strive to deliver the best results to my employers, colleagues, clients, professors as well as the public.
CARRER GOALS
I am actively seeking opportunities to work in the fields of transit and transportation planning. I aim to utilize my education and expertise to improve the quality of life and help build a thriving community with equal access and opportunities for all. I truly believe in the planning and research process that meaningfully engages community members as well as decision-makers in order to build trust and strengthen the community.

I'm always looking for new and exciting opportunities. Let's connect!
